What is Dana?
Dana is a Buddhist word that means generosity or heart. Nearly all Sacramento Insight Meditation activities are offered on a dana (donations) basis. This means our programs are sustained by the generosity of instructors in offering teachings freely and on the generosity of students and members of the meditative community in the form of financial support, service and participation in events. Practice dana, please support our Sangha. DONATE NOW

Strengthening Connections Between Board and Sangha
NewsDear sangha members,
As a member of the Sacramento Insight Meditation community and past member of the SIM Board of Directors I’m thinking about the many things that need to be done to keep our sangha healthy and thriving and about the stresses that these multiple obligations place on our Board. I am hoping to develop a support team of sangha members who can help the Board and contribute to our community in a variety of ways. I will be reaching out to initiate conversations with some and you, and would love to hear from anyone, so that I can learn how you are feeling about your connection SIM and whether you would be willing to take a phone call from a Board member, now or in the future, to discuss helping with a particular project. You would be under no obligation to say “yes”, just to consider helping if asked. Our conversation will also include discussing your interests and your skills to see what type of contribution you would find most appropriate and enjoyable. I’ll be looking forward to these conversations and to strengthening our bonds of sangha. Feel free to drop me a note at cathy@sactoinsight.org. I look forward to hearing from you!
Cathy Vigran

11/02/23 “Creating the Conditions for SIM’s Future”
Audio DharmaPresenters: Amy Kovak, David Guerrieri, Diane Wilde, Dennis Warren, and Rich Howard
In this special presentation, we will look at the historical roots of SIM’s evolution, the concepts behind the current Legacy Project, and information on our current three “Legacy Project” teachers (Diana Clark, Walt Opie, and Vance Pryor), including some exciting news about upcoming offerings. We will also present SIM’s new Operations Manager position and look at how the Sangha might support these important steps in creating the conditions for SIM’s future. There will be time for discussion, questions, and responses.
Holiday Fundraiser – Adopt a Family
NewsOnce again SIM is happy to support the Adopt-a-Family fundraiser.
Since 1985, Saint John’s Program for Real Change has supported more than 30,000 formerly homeless women and children, providing them with the essential tools and knowledge to change the trajectory of their lives.

10/26/23 “Be Your Own Teacher” with Diane Wilde
Audio Dharma“Be a lamp unto yourselves and strive forward with diligence” is one of the translations of the last words the Buddha uttered to his grieving disciples as he achieved paranibbana, or complete liberation. He left no heirs — no recommended teachers, but rather advised those gathered around him to depend on the Dhamma itself. He left us with a detailed path which alleviates much suffering and unhappiness in our lives.
The challenge is, how do we each individually stay on the path? Have we incorporated these essential teachings into our daily life? If we have, how do we do it? If not, why? Tonight we’ll discuss a few “prompts” that may be useful as a guide while navigating the path the Buddha outlined, in both daily life and on the cushion.
