This Thursday evening program will be dedicated to recognizing three recent graduates of the Spirit Rock four-year Teacher Training Program: Noliwe Alexander, Gulwinder “Gullu” Singh and JD Doyle. All of them have taught at SIM before. The evening will consist of a meditation period followed by a panel allowing each of these teachers to talk about their individual paths getting to this point in their dharma careers and their experiences in the training program. We also plan to have a question session so the community can get to know them better.
A similar program will be held for graduates of the Insight Meditation Society Teacher Training Program on June 24, 2021.

*** NOLIWE ALEXANDER has been a student of Vipassana meditation for over 15 years. Throughout this time of deep devotion to the Dharma, Noliwe has become a dedicated practitioner, teacher of various sitting groups around the Bay Area, facilitator of community workshops and Buddhist meditation day longs and class series programs. She is a Life & Business Coach dedicating both her coaching & Dharma practice to the POC, LGBT, At Risk and Elder communities. She is a graduate of Spirit Rock’s CDL4 program and completed EBMC’s Commit 2 Dharma program in 2010. Noliwe is participating in the Spirit Rock Teacher Training from 2017-2020. Noliwe is a wisdom keeper and humbled by the presence of her ancestor’s spirit that lives within and walks beside her.

*** GULWINDER “Gullu” SINGH is a corporate real estate attorney who also a Dharma teacher at InsightLA and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He has taught mindfulness at the University of Southern California, been a guest lecturer at UCLA Law School and has taught mindfulness in law firms, at bar associations and in law firm and corporate settings. Although he was exposed to meditation as a child, he found his own practice when he started his legal career, working at firms where the job was extremely stressful.
Gullu completed InsightLA’s one-year Mindfulness Facilitator Training, Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s 2-year Dedicated Practitioner Program, the training to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and the 4-year Spirit Rock Meditation Center Teacher Training Program which focuses on teaching in the silent retreat setting. Gullu is a core teacher in the Mindfulness in Law Teacher Training as well as the InsightLA Mindfulness Facilitator Training.
Gullu graduated from Duke University in 1990 and got his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1993, where he was on Law Review. He then worked at two preeminent BigLaw Firms before founding Landmark Law Group, Inc. in 1998. He was recognized as a California Super Lawyer in 2009.
Gullu is deeply inspired to share meditation as a path to freedom and also as an antidote to stress, a way to cope more effectively with the challenges of work and life and to inject more sanity, compassion and wisdom into this world.

*** JD DOYLE serves as a Core Teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, CA, has completed 8 years of training at Spirit Rock Meditation Center.. JD has practiced Buddhism since 1995 in the U.S., Thailand, and Burma. For over twenty years, they worked as a public school teacher. 02/18/2021 “Experiencing Emptiness of Self” with Dennis Warren
Audio DharmaExperiencing Emptiness of Self and Its’ Practical, Every-Day Implications
Understanding and experiencing the teaching on the Emptiness-of-Self (“No-Self” / “Anatta”) is considered is to be defining and transformative. But having the actual experience that makes this teaching immediate, direct and relevant to every-day life and relationships seems to elude us.
The focus of this Thursday night’s discussions will explore the Emptiness-of-Self through 4 questions:
Community teacher, Rich Howard, gave an excellent traditional overview of the teaching on “no-self” or “anatta” on Thursday, February 4 under the topic of “Finding and Losing Yourself.” Dennis’ discussion this Thursday will be on the same teaching but from a different perspective and emphasis. Rich’s talk is posted to SIM’s Audio Dharma Library (click here).
The subject matter of this evening is appropriate for all stages of practice. All that is necessary is showing up with an open, questioning mind.
