NEWS

The Wednesday morning sits that SIM has been hosting at 7 AM at the SDC have been poorly attended, and are being discontinued.  The last Wednesday morning sit will be held on October 31.  SIM will now be supporting Tom Hopkins in hosting a sit at the SDC on Friday mornings at 8 AM.  Everyone is warmly invited to attend this new Friday event.  Many thanks to Tom for his work in support of SIM and our community!

Sunday, October 21st from Noon to 3:00 PM at the Sacramento Dharma Center (More…)

Please join us for a service with Diane Wilde and James Baraz, Susan’s teacher. There will be time to share memories of our dear friend, beloved peace and justice organizer, defender of Mother Earth, artist, healer, teacher, and spiritual leader.

Susan asked that donations in her memory be made to the David Samuel Orr Fund for the Earth (www.dsoffte.org) and the Sacramento Dharma Center. All donations to the Center in her memory will be restricted to manifesting and dedicating an outdoor space to Susan.

Susan Orr, beloved lifelong organizer for peace and justice, defender of Mother Earth, accomplished artist, healer, Buddhist teacher, and spiritual leader passed away at the age of 76 in Sacramento, CA on September 9, 2018.

More information on this has been posted to the Sacramento Dharma Center website (click-here).

As Buddhist practitioners, we take refuge in the Buddha (and our own potential for Buddhahood), the Dharma (how life unfolds) and the sangha, (a supportive community of practitioners.) On this evening we take a closer look at sangha.
There are activities going on “behind the scenes” at SIM that you most likely don’t know about, as well as other supportive programs which will be offered in the future. We will also discuss what YOU would like to see offered at YOUR sangha.
Cookies and other treats were featured during the break.

The entire talk was very interesting and because it relates to our Sangha, we have also posted this talk to the SIM “News” blog. Some highlights of Sangha members who contributed to the discussion are summarized below noting the audio time marker, name, and discussion topic. This is not a comprehensive list. Listen to the entire talk so you won’t miss out on anything of interest to you.

We’re sorry to say Dennis Warren has a cold/allergies, and is not able to be at SIM this Thursday, March 22, as originally scheduled. The break-time celebration for Dennis will be postponed to a future date.

In his place, Rich Howard will provide beginning meditation instruction at 6:00 pm and the sit and dharma talk will be a continuation of last week’s exploration of Reconciliation.
