Generosity

Sacramento Insight Meditation (SIM) is grounded in the ancient and transformative practice of Dana. It means generosity of heart in the Pali language in use at the time of the Historical Buddha. This means SIM’s programs are made possible through the generosity of our teachers and through contributions of financial support, service, and participation of members of the community.

In addition to financial contributions, SIM’s offerings are supported by modest registration fees for courses, daylong retreats, special events and our annual residential retreat. These help cover administrative support and rent for our shared space at the Sacramento Dharma Center. Our Thursday evening sittings and Dharma talks remain freely offered with no registration fee.

Importantly, no one is ever turned away from any SIM program for lack of funds. We are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to practicing the Dharma.

This model of mutual generosity—of giving and receiving—nurtures qualities at the heart of our practice: loving-kindness, compassion, gratitude, non-attachment, and a deep sense of interconnection. These qualities, when cultivated through meditation and acts of giving, are the foundation for liberating insight and wisdom in our lives, our relationships with others and the world.

SIM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations support our mission and may be tax deductible under current IRS guidelines. We provide donation receipts to supporters and send year-end giving statements to those who contribute $250 or more throughout the year.
