Experiencing Insight
The Defining Characteristic of Theravada/Vipassana Buddhism
This is a three-month course facilitated by SIM Founding teacher Dennis Warren (click here for his biography).
Overview
This course explores the essential role of Insight in practice and Buddhist psychology. It provides clear guidance and specific methods for exploring different types of Insight in meditation, daily life, and relationships. It will broaden our idea of practice to include meditative reflection; maintaining a simple practice journal; learning how to talk more clearly about meditative experiences; and developing supportive relationships with other course members. This will be a practice and life integration course.
Format
All-Online | Trio | All-Retreat-Online | |
---|---|---|---|
January | 7, 14, 28 | 21 | 18 |
Febuary | 4, 18, 25 | 11 | 15 |
March | 11, 18 | 4 | 15 |
The 2025 course will include three half-day, online retreats – one for each month of the course – rather than the usual one-day retreat at the end of the course. This will help us understand, explore, and integrate new and modified practices we are learning into our sittings and daily life.
Participants will meet in three-person (trio) groups on the three Tuesdays when we are not meeting together online.
Until the course begins, we will listen to several dharma talks and do some reading.
Qualifications for Participation
Completion of SIM’s Beginning Meditation course, or equivalent experience; an affirmative desire to learn how to experience Insight and integrate it into your own life; and a commitment to actively work with recommended Insight practices between each online session and participate in each online session.
