Anchored in the Buddha’s teachings\, the retreat offers practices to awaken awareness\, calm the mind\, and nurture the qualities of lovingkindness\, compassion\, and equanimity. Suitable for both beginners and seasoned practitioners\, the program includes systematic meditation guidance (including metta/lovingkindness)\, Dharma talks\, and opportunities to meet with teachers to discuss your practice. Through stillness and presence\, participants will cultivate insight\, wisdom\, patience\, self-compassion and resilience for daily life. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n\nThis retreat accommodates no more than 25 registrants. Registration on this webpage opened on January 29.The registration fee is $1000\, with an opportunity to later make a donation to support the retreat teachers. If the retreat fills before you complete your registration\, you will have the opportunity to add your name to the wait list. We encourage you to pay the full registration fee if your finances allow. However\, if needed\, you may pay a 50% deposit and the remaining balance must be paid by February 28. These scholarships are offered to members of SIM\, the Young Persons Sangha\, or other Sacramento Dharma Center sanghas (Valley Streams and SBMG). To register with scholarship assistance\, follow these two steps: 1) Find the “Register Now – Yes I Want to Attend” section of this page and submit the registration form. 2) Complete the Scholarship Request Form. After completing both steps\, a member of the SIM Residential Retreat Scholarship Committee will follow up with you via email. Scholarship requests must be submitted by February 14 or before the retreat fills\, whichever comes first. Please note that scholarship recipients will be invoiced for a $500 registration fee (50% of the full retreat cost) upon approval of their application. \n\n\n\nCancellation Policy\n\n\n\n\nOn or before February 28: If you cancel and notify us by this date\, you will receive a full refund\, provided your spot is filled by someone on the waiting list.\n\n\n\nBetween February 29 and March 13: If you cancel during this period\, you will receive a full refund minus a $100 administrative fee\, provided your spot is filled by someone on the waiting list.\n\n\n\nOn or after March 14: If you cancel on or after this date\, 50% of the paid fee will be retained by SIM. This balance may be refundable if your spot is filled by someone on the waiting list. SUMMARY:(Hybrid) Sit & Dharma Talk - Diane Wilde - Moral Injury
DESCRIPTION:Insight Meditation and Dharma Talk with SIM Teacher Diane Wilde\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Diane Wilde\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n* The teacher will present in-person at the Dharma Center.Hybrid events can be attended via Zoom or onsite at the Sacramento Dharma Center. \n\n\n\n\nMoral InjuryThe times they are a-changing! This could be stated by every generation and each new epoch in our human and natural history. But the rapidity of cultural\, political and environmental changes that are now taking place is unprecedented. Additionally\, we now have “alternate” views of reality or what is “truth” — leading to confusion and anxiety. The individual\, society and the earth herself are suffering from the abandonment of core values by individuals and members of society. The mental health world has a term for the psychological distress (dukkha)\, that takes place when our values are violated and/or discarded. It is called “Moral Injury”. How can Buddhist teachings and our practice help us right now in dealing with “Moral Injury?” Not an easy topic\, but one that needs our attention. \n\n\n\nOffer a Teacher Donation\n\n\n\nDiane Wilde will receive at least 75% of your donation. \n\n\n\nUse the following donate button and select Talk – Apr 17 Diane from the dropdown list. \n\n\n\n\nDONATE – Thu Talk\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Attend Remotely\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin online meeting: https://zoom.us/join or join by phone at 1-669-900-6833( Meeting ID: 824 3438 6704 and Passcode: 244812)For tips and instructions to join the meeting\, click here to check this news blog.

SUMMARY:(Hybrid) Daylong Retreat - Walt Opie - Working with Distracting Thoughts
DESCRIPTION:Daylong Retreat with SIM Teacher Walt Opie\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Walt Opie\, click here. \n\n\n\nRetreat Theme: Working with Distracting Thoughts\n\n\n\nOne of the most challenging aspects of meditation can be learning how to work with distracting thoughts that keep recurring or may feel particularly “sticky” in some way. There is a well-known sutta or discourse (MN 20) whose translated title is “The Removal of Distracting Thoughts.” We will explore the advice offered by the Buddha in this sutta\, as well as other teachings on this subject. At the same time\, this will be a daylong retreat focused mainly on the practice of insight meditation\, with periods of sitting and walking meditation\, plus dharma talks and time for discussion.Bring your lunch. Appropriate for beginning and experienced meditators.  \n\n\n\nAbout This Hybrid Retreat\n\n\n\n\nParticipants may attend this Hybrid event via Zoom or in-person at the SDC.\n\n\n\nPre-registration is required and we recommend you pay the registration fee in advance using the registration button shown below.
