SUMMARY:(Onsite) Mini-Retreat (Friday and Saturday) Resting Into What Is Possible
DESCRIPTION:Resting Into What Is Possible – A mini-retreat with four teachers over two days \n\n\n\n\nBuddhist practice offers us the possibility of experiencing the expansive sense of satisfaction and joy that is waiting for us on the other side of suffering. Having this experience is not a question of fixing and doing. It is about resting into qualities of mind and heart that help develop and sustain a more open\, lighter and connected way of living and being in relationship with others. This retreat will provide participants with an understanding of the psychology\, meditation methods and daily practices which foster and support four special qualities of mind and heart. Friday will explore Letting Go/Forgiveness and Gratitude. Saturday will explore Loving Kindness and Equanimity. This two-day event will give SIM’s core faculty – Rich Howard\, Diane Wilde and Dennis Warren – a rare opportunity to teach together. They will be joined on Saturday afternoon by Senior Teacher Kamala Masters by Zoom from Hawaii. Movement each day will be led by therapist and Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator Sam Halford. We encourage participation in both days of this special retreat. SUMMARY:(Hybrid) Sit & Dharma Talk - Diane Wilde - The Courage to Be Vulnerable
DESCRIPTION:Meditation & Dharma Talk with SIM Teacher Diane Wilde\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Diane Wilde\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n* The teacher will present in-person at the Dharma Center.Hybrid events can be attended via Zoom or onsite at the Sacramento Dharma Center. \n\n\n\n\nThe Courage to Be VulnerableVulnerability is a scary word.  We believe that if we become vulnerable\, we will lose control of the narrative that has defined ourselves\, our judgements… our control over our lives. Our stories have defined us\, yet we rarely ask if these stories are helpful or even true. Practicing mindfulness on the cushion and daily life could also be defined as learning to become vulnerable. The result of having the courage to be vulnerable allows genuine joy\, contentment and ease to arise. Tonight we will briefly summarize four practices that allow vulnerability to arise. The upcoming mini-retreat will go into much greater detail about meditation methods and daily practices which foster and support these four special qualities of mind and heart… letting go/forgiveness\, gratitude\, boundless friendliness and equanimity. \n\n\n\nOffer a Teacher Donation\n\n\n\nSelect the Donate button and choose TALK – Nov 14 Diane from the dropdown list. The teacher receives at least 75% of your donation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Attend Remotely\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin online meeting: https://zoom.us/join or join by phone at 1-669-900-6833( Meeting ID: 898 3348 9002 and Passcode: 806268)For tips and instructions to join the meeting\, click here to check this news blog.

To offer teacher dana\, visit https://sactoinsight.org/retreat-dana-online/.\n\n\n\n\nRetreat Theme\n\n\n\nDeath As Our TeacherJust as life is happening all around us\, so is death. Human beings appear to be the only species that are conscious of our mortality. Yet most people purposefully ignore this fact of our existence\, preferring to put effort\, thoughts and practice on “more pleasant things”. We yearn to “wake up”\, to let go of our endless attachments and experience contentment and ease in our lives. Paradoxically\, facing the death of our loved ones and ourselves\, is one of the classic Buddhist teachings for accepting the truth of existence and waking up to impermanence. It is also a teaching that can greatly reduce and perhaps even eliminate the biggest delusion of all… that everyone else will die\, except me. SUMMARY:(Hybrid) Sit & Dharma Talk - Dennis Warren (Awakening – A Working Model for the Community Practitioner)
DESCRIPTION:Meditation & Dharma Talk with SIM Founding Teacher Dennis Warren\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Dennis Warren\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n* The teacher will present in-person at the Dharma Center.Hybrid events can be attended via Zoom or onsite at the Sacramento Dharma Center. \n\n\n\n\nAwakening – A Working Model for the Community PractitionerAwakening\, or Enlightenment\, is considered the point of liberation when a practitioner exits the Wheel of Suffering associated with daily life. The biographies of those who practiced directly with the Historical Buddha are filled with stories of Awakening and Enlightenment…while meditating\, listening to a dharma talk\, during the course of daily monastic life. It’s reasonable to ask if this profound notion of liberation – where the mind is purified of all obstacles\, limitations and suffering – is relevant and realistic today for the community practitioner? This evening will explore the meaning and different models of Awakening or Enlightenment. It will examine a working model that may help us reframe our understanding and experience of this important potential in our lives\, and provide for a more satisfying practice and life. The subject matter of this evening will be appropriate for all stages of practice. You can attend in person or by ZOOM. Dennis will be presenting in person and encourages you to be there in person as well. \n\n\n\nOffer a Teacher Donation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[give_form id=”10310″ show_title=”false” show_content=”none” display_style=”reveal”] \n\n\n\nHow to Attend Remotely\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin online meeting: https://zoom.us/join or join by phone at 1-669-900-6833( Meeting ID: 898 3348 9002 and Passcode: 806268)For tips and instructions to join the meeting\, click here to check this news blog.

In our practice of boundless kindness (Metta in Pali)\, we say\, “May you be peaceful.” So\, what are the conditions that lead to peace in the outer and inner worlds? The Buddha counseled rulers about outer peace\, and gave many instructions to practitioners about inner peace. We will examine these instructions and see how we might apply them to bring peace for ourselves\, those around us\, and our world.  \n\n\n\nOffer a Teacher Donation\n\n\n[give_form id=”10304″ show_title=”false” show_content=”none” display_style=”reveal”] \n\n\n\nHow to Attend Remotely\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin online meeting: https://zoom.us/join or join by phone at 1-669-900-6833( Meeting ID: 898 3348 9002 and Passcode: 806268)For tips and instructions to join the meeting\, click here to check this news blog.

SUMMARY:(Onsite) Daylong Retreat - Dennis Warren - Working with Memory\, Remembering\, Repetitive Thinking and Suffering
DESCRIPTION:Daylong In-person Retreat with SIM’s Founding Teacher Dennis Warren\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Dennis Warren\, click here. \n\n\n\nRetreat Theme\n\n\n\nWorking with Memory\, Remembering\, Repetitive Thinking and SufferingAlmost all of us have had this experience: After an encounter with someone\, we reflect on the situation and think they are upset with or mad at us. Repetitive thought sets in re-enforcing and strengthening our concern. We become anxious and this affects our behavior. We feel uncomfortable when we see the person\, or maybe avoid them. And then…we talk with the person and find out they were never upset or mad in the first place. This is a wonderful illustration of the Historical Buddha’s teaching that we make not just the world\, but our suffering and happiness\, with our thoughts. This one-day workshop will explore the pivotal and major role that memory\, remembering and related repetitive thinking play in our identity and suffering. We will investigate and learn how to work skillfully with these qualities of mind from the perspectives of Buddhist psychology and modern memory research. It will involve meditations\, reflections\, dharma talks\, and small and large group discussions. The day is appropriate for all levels of practice experience. Please bring a pen/pencil and paper\, and your own lunch. Plan on staying on-site at the Sacramento Dharma Center all day during the retreat. \n\n\n\nAbout This Onsite Retreat\n\n\n\n\nThe teacher will present in-person at the Sacramento Dharma Center. Participants will attend this event in-person at the SDC. It’s not available via zoom.\n\n\n\nPre-registration is required and we recommend you pay the registration fee in advance using the registration ATTEND button shown below. SUMMARY:(Hybrid) Sit & Dharma Talk - Dennis Warren - Practice: A Path and Safety Net or Confusing Puzzle?
DESCRIPTION:Meditation & Dharma Talk with SIM Founding Teacher Dennis Warren\n\n\n\nFor biographical details of the teacher Dennis Warren\, click here. \n\n\n\n\n* The teacher will present in-person at the Dharma Center.Hybrid events can be attended via Zoom or onsite at the Sacramento Dharma Center. \n\n\n\n\nPractice: A Path and Safety Net or Confusing Puzzle? The Historical Buddha’s teaching\, psychology and practice methods are frequently referred to as a Path or The Path. Sometimes\, they are presented as a vast inter-connected net that provides us with safety and stability. For many\, however\, the elements of practice sometimes feel more like a confusing puzzle or a basket of seemingly contradictory principles and recommendations. How do the elements of practice fit together in a cohesive system of meditation and life practices that are relevant\, useful\, helpful? This evening will explore some of the fundamental principles that help us to shift from uncertainty and confusion about practice\, to an understanding of how the elements fit together and support each other. It will examine a model of doing this where core principles help us move from a sense of separation to one of connectedness and inter-relationship.The subject matter of this evening will be appropriate for all stages of practice. You can attend in person or by ZOOM. Dennis will be presenting in person and encourages you to be there in person as well. \n\n\n\nOffer a Teacher Donation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[give_form id=”10310″ show_title=”false” show_content=”none” display_style=”reveal”] \n\n\n\nHow to Attend Remotely\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin online meeting: https://zoom.us/join or by phone at 1-669-900-6833( Meeting ID: 850 9796 2731 and Passcode: 136792 )For tips and instructions to join the meeting\, click here to check this news blog.
