SUMMARY:*Daylong Retreat - Diane Wilde - Not clinging to self-identity
DESCRIPTION:Not clinging to self-identity\nA One Day Retreat– with SIM’s Community Teacher Diane Wilde\nNot clinging to Self-identity is the first “marker” on the path to liberation — and could be divided into both exterior and interior ‘processes’. Our exterior self-identity fixates on how we need to be seen by acquaintances and strangers with our predefined narrative. We want our “specialness” to be recognized. Our interior self-identity is a confusing contrivance which is constantly changing\, re-evaluating and re-constructing itself. In fact\, our mutating interior self-identity causes even more suffering than the outward modality in which we face the world. In contemporary terms\, working with self-identity might be defined as\, learning how to not take ourselves so seriously. At our daylong we will learn from traditional Buddhist teachings\, as well as contemporary teachers\, how to start releasing this bag of tricks that ultimately makes no sense at all. We may even begin to see the truth that clinging to self-identity is ultimately the source of our suffering… and begin to let go. \nOur day will be mostly in silence except for periods of discussion/Dhamma talk. \nPlease bring a lunch and if possible\, your own plates\, cups and utensils. \n\nRetreat Flyer (.pdf)\n\nDIANE WILDE has studied meditation in various traditions since 1990. DESCRIPTION:Beginning Anew\nA One Day Retreat– with Sim’s Founding Teacher Dennis Warren\nThis will be a relaxed day of practice involving alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation\, movement and discussion. We’ll explore what it means to “look in the right place” and “look the right way” when trying to work with challenges like doubt\, confusion\, restlessness\, worry and anxiety. We’ll do this through trying different approaches to experiencing things directly\, rather than intellectually. We’ll engage in some thoughtful reflection on the how the choices and decisions we make in dealing with these core life challenges shape not just our own lives\, and but impact the lives of those around us. \nAll are welcome. Come for all day or for a portion of the day. Please bring your lunch. \n\nEvent flyer (.pdf file)\n\nDENNIS WARREN is SIM’s Founder Teacher.
