SUMMARY:*Sit & Special Event: State of the Sangha & Thank You
DESCRIPTION:A Special Event: State of the Sangha & Thank You \nNovember 2 will be a special evening to review the considerable accomplishments we’ve made as an organization on our one-year anniversary in the Sacramento Dharma Center. Members of the SIM Board will share their perspectives on the State of the Sangha and plans for 2018 and beyond. \nWe’ll celebrate all that we’ve achieved in moving to a new physical home\, building relationships with the other sanghas who are now our neighbors\, and rising to meet the financial challenges that accompanied our move. We are pleased to be able to present a positive year-end report and to share our plans for 2018. We’ll look forward to hearing community members share their observations about the last year as well as new ideas for improvement and change. \nAn important part of the evening will be an expression of gratitude for the indispensable help from all our volunteers during this year of transition and for all our members for being part of this community and providing essential financial support. \nWe also want to announce some significant changes in the operation of our Board. This includes several new officers as well as a new President who is scheduled to serve a full two-year term beginning in March of 2018. \nWe’ll sit\, have cake and tea\, then have presentations\, discussion and questions and answers. This will be a very special evening\, and we look forward to seeing and hearing from each of you.

SUMMARY:SIM Community Holiday Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Sacramento Insight Meditation (SIM) hosts a community potluck during the holidays. This event is open to the general dharma community. \nSavory or Sweet\, bring a dish to share (6-8 Servings). In SIM’s tradition please bring your own plate\, cup\, utensils and as we attempt to go paperless\, cloth napkins. Again this year we will need a few people to bring table cloth(s) and holiday decor! We will be setting up our Holiday Feast starting from 6:30 PM\, and planning to eat at 7PM. \nA Unique Opportunity to Visit and Share\nAll are invited to come celebrate the holidays with our sangha\, as we eat together and enjoy each other’s company. Come and visit with your SIM friends\, acquaintances and dharma communities. This evening is a fun and joyful way for us to spend time getting to know one another better. It’s a wonderful opportunity to make new friends. \nThis evening will be what we make of it. \nThere will not be a Dharma talk. Instead\, as we’ve done in years past\, people are invited to share of themselves. We all have something to give – our personal dana – a poem\, a reading\, a story\, a song\, a dance\, a picture – whatever comes from the heart\, in the spirit of the holidays. It does not have to be original. For sharing your personal dana\, be mindful of the time\, 4-6 minutes\, so that everyone who wants to can have the opportunity to participate. To sign up for sharing your personal dana\, or to learn more about it\, contact Linda Franklin by email or phone (530) 902-1364 or complete this online form. \nTell us if you’re Going or Not Going\nFor the potluck\, your RSVP is requested as it will help us estimate the number of tables and chairs we’ll be setting up. At the bottom of this webpage\, enter the number of people planning to attend\, select the button Confirm RSVP and then pick “Going” or “Not Going”. \nSacramento Insight Meditation events are sustained by the generosity of instructors in offering teachings freely and on the generosity of students and members of the meditative community in the form of financial support\, service and participation in events. With our practice of dana\, we support our Sangha.

We hope you will think of SIM on the Big Day of Giving! \n\n\n\nWhat is Big Day of Giving?Big Day of Giving is a once-annual 24-hour giving challenge to help local nonprofits raise funds to make a difference in the Sacramento region. It’s the culmination of an entire year’s worth of community-building and collaboration led by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation\, with support from community partners like Western Health Advantage\, and made possible by people like you! \n\n\n\nHow can I help?GIVE: You can donate to SIM by visiting www.bigdayofgiving.org on Thursday\, May 2\, and making a gift with a credit or debit card. \n\n\n\n\nDonations as little as $10 make a big difference.\n\n\n\nYour gifts can help us win some of the prizes that are up for grabs!\n\n\n\nHelp us reach our $1000 match from an anonymous donor; every donation will be doubled until the match has been completely met!\n\n\n\nYou can start giving from April 18 through May 2 during the Early Giving period.
