Have you ever investigated your physical and mental response when you have been in this situation?  \n\n\n\nAccording to Buddhist philosophy\, a critique of an action or belief which is contrary to your own could be of strategic benefit to you… if you are able to hear it. One of the Buddha’s most well-known senior monks\, Mahamoggallana\, offered guidance on this subject — enumerating the qualities of someone who can and cannot be admonished. Equally important\, how do we effectively offer another person a differing —and often challenging — point of view or advice. Will we endanger our relationship? There will be an emphasis on the Third Foundation of Mindfulness\, namely mindfulness of the mind. The Buddha said we should become aware of the difference between wholesome thoughts and unwholesome thoughts. He also said\, “Whatever a person frequently thinks and ponders upon\, that will become the inclination of their mind.” We can incline the mind towards freedom by cultivating the right attitude towards whatever arises.  \n\n\n\nAbout This Hybrid Retreat\n\n\n\n\nParticipants may attend this Hybrid event via Zoom or in-person at the SDC.\n\n\n\nPre-registration is required and we recommend you pay the registration fee in advance using the registration button shown below. Since your registration choice indicates if you’ll be attending via Zoom or in-person\, registering early helps us determine how many people the meditation room should accommodate.\n\n\n\nAfter you’ve registered you may later offer a donation in gratitude of the teacher. These perspectives will often color our vision such that reality is missed and we see everything through me-colored glasses. Tonight we will talk about skillful ways of regarding experience that support us to take off distorted lenses and see the world anew. \n\n\n\nKODO CONLIN trains in both the Zen and Theravada traditions\, ordaining as a Soto Zen priest in 2015. His practice in Vipassana has included extended residential training in the tradition of S.N.
